Belton South Carolina
The City of Belton, is located in Upstate South Carolina and is a thriving and stable community nestled in the eastern part of Anderson County. Belton is the second largest city in Anderson county with a population of 4400.
Belton is 207 miles from Charleston, South Carolina's busiest port and 107 miles from Columbia, the state capital. Myrtle Beach, the states most popular tourist spot is 260 miles east and Greenville is 22 miles northeast. Belton is 128 miles northeast of Atlanta, 726 miles south of New York, and 2,651 miles east of San Francisco.
Belton was settled by families of Irish descent and was chartered in 1855 as a "child of the railroad" on the track that linked the Piedmont region with the coastal market of Charleston and is still served today by two railroads today, the Greenville & Western and the Pickens Railway.
In 1908, a municipal water system was established. A 155 feet concrete tower with a 165,000 gallon capacity was built. Known as the Belton Standpipe, the tower is still in use today. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Place in 1987.
The city is at the junction of four highway arteries with connections to I-385 in Greenville County, I-26 in Laurens County and I-85 in Anderson and Greenville. Anderson is only 15 minutes away and its only 30 minutes to downtown Greenville making it a wonderful location to live and have only a short commute to work.
Recreation facilities in the community consist of ten lighted tennis courts, four publicly owned baseball/softball fields, practice fields, playgrounds and a lighted walking track. Three 18 hole golf courses are located within 10 miles of the city. Nearby Hartwell Lake, Lake Secession and Broadway Lake provide areas for fishing, camping, boating, skiing, swimming, and picnicking.
