Are you wondering if a home theater will help to increase a home’s value?
Well if you have read my profile, you can see that I love heavy metal music. Many times when I am working at my house I have the stereo cranked up with some music. Gets my creative juices flowing…
And I also love playing video games to relax. Or hanging out and watching movies with the family. I have to say I like watching movies at home more than in the theater. Of course that might be due to me being so cheap. It gets expensive going to movies once you add in a super size soda, large popcorn, several different types of candy, some nachos, and 3 hotdogs.
And if the wife wants anything, well that will totally bust our budget…
Which is why many people are like me and like the idea of having a home theater. Maybe you think having a room designed so you can enjoy watching TV, cranking up the stereo or playing video games sounds great to you? I bet you would like watching a HUGE flat screen television or projector while kicked back in comfy seats.
Plus a home theater can be a great way to relax after a hard day. And you know that all your friends and family would love coming over to watch the big game or play some Madden. Or what ever game is your favorite.
But when it comes time to sell your home, you may be wondering if all the money you spent on a home theater will be a smart investment?
And will it add any value to your home?
Most importantly, will it turn off potential buyers?
Buyers Like High Tech Homes
Well the good news is that many of today’s buyers are looking for homes with high tech features. One of the most important things I suggest that buyers consider is whether or not cable and high speed internet is available. Home buyers are looking for features that just a few years ago that most people didn’t even consider important. Since buyers are looking for a home with the latest technology, a home theater could be a selling point.
A home theater might give you an edge over the competition
While it is going to be hard to figure out exactly how much value is added by a home theater, I can say it will be a feature that will impress people and make your home stick in people’s memories. There are only so many houses for sale at any given time, so the one that makes a positive impression will be more likely to sell first.
Space: The Crucial Frontier
There is no doubt that one thing every buyers wants is more home for their money. So try not to hurt your home’s value by using up valuable space in a medium sized or smaller home. If a house does not have the extra space for a home theater, it could wind up hurting you more than it helps!
I have to say that just like a pool, only some buyers are going to want a home theater. So it is possible that updating the kitchen or baths will be more attractive to more buyers. And you want as many buyers as possible falling in love with your home!
