Grab those pom poms, pour a big glass of the kool aid and start cheering Buy a House…
Sometimes it is really really hard to tell people what I do with pride considering the advertising of NAR that always proclaims it is a great time to buy a house. Hey if I was selling vacuum cleaners, it would always be a great time to buy something that sucks right?
Unless you had no need for a vacuum cleaner. And if you had no need to buy a vacuum cleaner, I would not insult you for not buying a vacuum cleaner…
Yet NAR had been running TV ads that are somewhat insulting to renters…
The truth is there is nothing wrong with renting. Implying there is something wrong with renting is just…wrong. It is true that in many ways, home ownership is a good thing. And I do think that owning a home can be a good thing for some people.
NAR should be running ad campaigns about the government wasting time and not making decisions and policy changes that actually help struggling home owners.
Even if it means a NAR member does NOT make a freakin dime
Because it is the right thing to do. Consider this quote from an article I read that has nothing to do with real estate. But it has everything to do with doing the right thing:
Are you in business to make money at all costs, even from people who can’t afford it? Lame.
Are you in business to rip people off? You’re an asshole.
Are you in business to over charge people for things that they can get cheaper in other places? Go suck an egg.
Sorry if the language offends you. But there really isn’t a nice way to say that you are an asshole without using the word asshole. The truth is that public opinion of REALTORS is really really low. Instead of always shaking those pom poms and cheering about how it is a great time to buy a home…
Why not do something different?
Why not do the right thing?
Like run ads asking Congress to vote on and pass the tax relief extensions set to expire this year that includes mortgage principal forgiven in loan modification or short sale.
Or maybe being very very vocal about how you are Applauding FHFA for Expanding Short Sale Eligibility?
Like publicly asking both Presidential candidates exactly what they are going to do in the first 30-60-90-180 days they are in office to help struggling home owners?
How many times did NAR say anything about the Robosigning scandal?
Has NAR said anything about the LIBOR scandal?
Don’t these issues have a negative effect on home owners?
Nope let’s just talk about rainbows, unicorns and any other fairy tale that might help someone sell a house so they can pay their membership dues.
Maybe NAR can come up with a new designation for Buy Now cheerleading?
