Good information for both buyers and sellers about using some websites to get information about real estate…
Check this snippet out from NBC Chicago:
For a homeowner who says she has never missed a mortgage payment, the word “foreclosure” listed next to her Sycamore home shocked Kristin Miller.
Miller said she recently found the false foreclosure listing on Zillow, the wildly popular website where consumers turn for information on home values, price histories and foreclosures.
This problem is NOT limited to just Zillow!
Sure real estate agents love to point out just how bad Zillow is with inaccurate data. But the freaking truth is just because something is on the internet does NOT mean it is true! So if you read something online, especially if it is on Zillow, it is in your best interests to verify the information.
If you are looking to buy a home, stop looking on websites with inaccurate data. You might think you need to look everywhere but the truth is a good buyers agent will make sure they are sending you every single listing that fits your budget & criteria.
If you are selling a home, please do NOT use some website to come up with a value for your home. It is not the best or most accurate way to find out the market value of your home. Either pay for an appraisal OR have a REALTOR / real estate agent perform a CMA. It might be fun to look at your Zestimate, but it does NOT give you the information you really need to know.
So whether you are buying or selling, please do yourself a HUGE favor and seek out a real estate professional with the experience and knowledge to help you. You have too much to lose by using on inaccurate websites such as Zillow!
