Selling a home can be a stressful time. Here are a few tips to help you deal with the stress in a healthy way…
Selling a home can be a stressful time. There are looming deadlines and most people can’t help but worry about things that are beyond their control.
Sellers have to worry about the inspection, the appraisal, whether the underwriter will find some reason to not give the buyer the mortgage they need. There are many different things that can cause stress when selling a house.
It is only natural to feel stressed when you are selling a home. Stress makes us more alert and ready to avoid danger, so it can helpful in certain situations.
But selling a home is NOT one of those situations!
If you are in a constant state of stress on an ongoing basis, this can be very damaging to your health. You really must learn healthy ways to manage your stress.
Here are some healthy ways that you can manage stress:
Don’t Keep it Bottled Up!
A lot of stress comes from being angry or upset about a situation but keeping your thoughts and feelings inside. I have to admit that I often let things build up inside me. I have found that if you can talk to a friend or family member about your feelings, it really helps!
Take Time To Relax
No matter how busy and chaotic things might be, take time for yourself to recharge and relax. I am not saying you can blow off the deadlines in your contract. However, you must take a little time for yourself even if it’s only 20-30 minutes.
Maybe a relaxing bath, or reading, or going for a walk will help. I like to either crank up the stereo or play some video games. It is amazing how taking just a few minutes will help to reduce your stress level.
I suggest this ONLY if you are healthy enough for exercising. Breaking a sweat can be a great way to deal with stress. I know you may have already packed up your treadmill or exercise equipment. You can find ways to get that heart rate up!
The act of exercising is a great stress reliever because it encourages your brain to produce feel-good chemicals such as endorphins. Plus your body will be better able to fight stress when it is in good shape.
Don’t Forget Plenty of Sleep
If I am stressed out, I find myself needing more sleep. Which can be hard because you toss and turn with 1000 things running through your mind.
I know it can be tempting to stay up later so that you can get more packing done. A lack of sleep will actually make you less effective. You won’t be able to handle stressful situations as well. Make sure that you go to bed at a reasonable time and get the sleep you need.
Rely Upon Your Real Estate Agent
No matter what it is that you are stressed about, you should not feel bad about calling or emailing your real estate agent for some reassurance. This can be a huge help when you are feeling stressed. A good agent will keep you in the loop but even the greatest agent in the world is not a mind reader.
Let your agent know what is stressing you out. They have the experience to help you deal with the home selling stress. Sometimes a seller just needs some reassurance or maybe it is a serious concern they need addressed. Your REALTOR can help you deal with your home selling stress.
